Overview

The Statutory Positions Training is a result of a revised legislative framework in WA in 2022.

In line with the WHS Act 2020, and WHS (Mines) Regulations, there is a requirement for mining operators in Western Australia (WA) to make appointments to statutory functions including the required experience and training.

This covers Statutory Supervisors, and Statutory Managers. Appointing statutory functions is considered of fundamental importance to minimise the risks to health and safety to workers and other persons.

As an RTO with national scope, we've been involved in consultation with the WA Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety to offer nationally recognised training that aligns to the legislative framework.

Why is this happening?

It is important that appropriately qualified and experienced persons are working in statutory positions. Not having competent persons in these safety-critical roles would be considered a serious risk to health as safety, as per Section 4 of the statement of regulatory intent.
