What should I look for when choosing a training provider?
The Australian Skills and Qualifications Authority (ASQA) has developed a fact sheet to help you to be fully informed about your decision to enroll into a course. Find out more here
What are my rights and responsibilities as a student?
The Australian Skills and Qualification Authority (ASQA) requires that students be aware of their rights and responsibilities once they have selected their training provider. Please read our ASTRA Student Handbook 2016 for your Rights and Responsibilities before enrolling into any of our courses.
Do I need a Unique Student Identifier (USI) to attend training with ASTRA?
Yes. As of January 1st 2015, all students undertaking nationally recognised training delivered by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) will need to have a USI. The Department of Education and Training regulates the application process for USIs. The main aim of the USI is to provide students access to a centralised database of their training records. Certificate 3 Guarantee
A core element of the Queensland Government’s Working Queensland jobs plan is ensuring Queenslanders have access to quality training programs that deliver effective skills to meet employment and business demands.
C3G supports eligible individuals to complete their first postschool certificate III level qualification and increase their skills to move into employment, re-enter the workforce or advance their career.
It also supports Queensland’s Year 12 graduates to transition to employment by providing fee-free training in high priority qualifications.
Under C3G, the Queensland Government provides a subsidy for a range of certificate III level vocational qualifications.
Foundation skills training and lower-level vocational qualifications may also be subsidised in certain circumstances.
The program is open to any Queensland resident aged 15 years or over who is no longer at school (with the exception of VET in Schools students) and is an Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident (including humanitarian entrants), or a temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency.
Prospective students must not have or be enrolled in a Certificate III level or higher qualification, not including qualifications completed at school and foundations skills training.
Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ)
As part of the Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) Initiative, ASTRA Group Services are approved to provide cost effective nationally recognised training to the Building and Civil Construction Industry.
Skills and Gap Training – Civil Construction
There are many proven benefits to having an upskilled workforce. Aside from safety practices and legislative requirements, demonstrating to your workforce that you are willing to invest in them will improve staff retention and productivity.
Workers who hold nationally recognised training can offer more skills diversification and sustainability to your organisation and introduces more accountability and expectations to the individual in their role.
Training is not a cost, its an investment –
The better your employees are at their job, the easier it is for your organisation to attain the level of productivity and skills required.
The Skills Assessment and Gap Training – Civil Construction Program provides a pathway for workers with Civil Construction Industry experience that have many of the necessary skills to perform on the job but do not hold a formal Qualification to recognise these skills.
Experience counts, particularly when it’s formally recognised.
It will make a difference to your future. The first stage of SAGT will see your skills and abilities ‘mapped’ against a Qualification. You will then go on to undertake the targeted gap training.
Only one (1) Qualification is to be delivered to each participant during the contract term and the Qualification cannot have an outcome based entirely on RPL. There can only be a minimum of two (2) or maximum of eight (8) Full Training Products or a maximum of 500 nominal hours, whichever comes first.
Funding is not available for any Units of Competency or Qualifications previously completed by a Participant.
No more than one (1) may be chosen from elsewhere within this training package, or from another endorsed training package, or from an accredited course.
In order to meet the eligibility requirements, participants must demonstrate 80% RPL (recognised prior learning) experience.
You must be able to provide evidence of identification and current employment and is mandatory for your eligibility. An evidence checklist will be provided on application.
This initiative allows the employer or employee to cover the ASTRA fee of $100.00 with CSQ providing the following rebate upon eligibility approval.
