Identify, Locate and Protect Underground Services
Understanding how to identify, locate and protect underground services is an important skill to have when working in industries such as building, civil construction and landscaping because damages to utilities/services such as electricity, water and gas can be dangerous and expensive.
The training is a practical based approach to learning that involves students reading and interpreting plans, using a service locator and an overview of the Dial Before You Dig (DYBD) system incorporated with identifying hazards and working in accordance with workplace policies and procedures.
During the course participants will:
Plan and prepare for identifying, locating and protecting underground services
Work in accordance with workplace policies, procedures and relevant industry legislation
Read and interpret plans
Manage/report hazards, and maintain a safe working environment

Who needs Locate Underground Services Training?
Identify, locate and protect underground services training is ideal for participants working within the building, civil construction, landscaping and land management, rail and infrastructure industries who are required to locate or excavate. Occupations include but are not limited to:
- Machinery Operators
- Telecom workers

You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying and training with ASTRA, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and in some cases through recognition of prior learning.

There may be multiple tasks that require manual handling of materials and equipment.
