TAE40116 Gap Training

Let’s talk about Cert IV TAE40116 Gap Training for Trainer Assessors.

As of 30 June 2019, trainers and assessors must hold:

  • TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or its successor or
  • TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment plus the following units:
    • TAELLN411 (or its successor) or TAELLN401A, and
    • TAEASS502 (or its successor) or TAEASS502A or TAEASS502B or
  • a diploma or higher level qualification in adult education.

The deadline has passed us by.

But, Industry Trainer Assessors are still trying to navigate the minimum requirements.

If you did not upgrade to the full TAE40116, but completed the requirements of TAELLN411/TAELLN401B and TAEASS502A/B, you may be wondering how to upgrade to TAE40116? Or do you even need to get the TAE40116?

No, it’s not mandatory.

But, we operate in a ‘continuous improvement industry’ that demands you maintain your professional development activities and currency in the training you provide.

So why wait until there’s a deadline… Act now.

ASTRA has the solution.

You are only 1/2-day away from completing your upgrade. Attend the TAE40116 Gap Training Workshop to close the gaps against the non-equivalent units:

  • TAEASS401 Plan assessment activities and processes; and
  • TAEASS403 Participate in assessment validation.
  • Completed TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
  • Hold TAEASS502 – Design and develop assessment tools; and TAELLN411 – Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills (or the superseded equivalent)
  • Complete the ‘Bridging Gaps’ TAE40116 Gap Training Workshop
  • Receive your TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment

On successful completion, you will be issued the nationally recognised Qualification in TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

You may still have questions, and that’s ok.

I have completed my Certificate IV in TAE40110 and met the new unit requirements, can't I just credit transfer to TAE40116?

NO – When the TAE40116 was released, TAEASS401A/B & TAEASS403B were deemed not equivalent from TAE40110.

This means these two units cannot be credited transferred across to the new units. Gap training must be completed.

Will I gain any skills or am I just ticking a compliance box?

When was the last time you:

1. Participated in an assessment validation meeting and lead the discussions?

2. Planned and documented assessment activities and processes that led to the successful delivery of a program?

3. Unpacked a unit of competency standard, reviewed existing assessment tools and provided suggested changes for improvement against the principles of assessment and rules of evidence?

If you answered yes to all of the above and can demonstrate evidence and two third party references, contact us now and apply for RPL!

I'm a Trainer / Assessor and don't develop assessment tools, why do I need to understand validation strategies?

As a Trainer and Assessor, you play a critical role in validating the assessment tools you are using during your assessment. When you are requested to attend a validation session (which you should always say yes to as a professional development activity, case and point) it can sometimes be a daunting and unclear process. As a result of completing the TAE Workshop, you will feel confident and informed to participate in validations and see the benefits and how validation is an effective and crucial tool in improving both your training and assessment processes, as well as the practices of the RTO which you are working with.
