BSB41419 – Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety

BSB41419 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety is the industry standard for anyone who are in a WH&S role or aspiring to be in a WHS role and have some limited responsibility for the output of others such as that of a WHS coordinator or safety advisor.

Designed and run by industry professionals, this Cert IV work health and safety qualification is designed to give participants specialised knowledge and skills to identify workplace health and safety hazards, assess and control risks and ensure compliance with current legislation. 

Upon successful completion of the course, students may apply for a Work Health and Safety Officer (WHSO) Qld certificate of authority from Workplace Health and Safety Queensland?(WHSQ). Participants will need to apply directly to WHSQ themselves by providing a certified copy of evidence of: 

  • Their ID (e.g. drivers licence) 
  • Copy of the qualification 

On successful completion of this program, participants will receive a nationally recognised Qualification for: 

  • BSB41419 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety

Assessment is structured around the completion of in-class case studies, individual and collaborative activities, written submissions, and a post course project. 

Post-course assessment is required to complete the qualification requirements. 

Learning Methods

ASTRA use various assessment methods and techniques, including skill and knowledge assessments as an essential step to ensure you progress through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying and training with ASTRA, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples and third-party feedback. 

There is self-paced learning required for this Certificate IV in work health and safety course which includes completion of homework and research activities as well as online learning materials. Students may require access to a computer and internet outside of scheduled training days. ASTRA can assist with any resources or access as required. 

Before commencing any course, ASTRA recommends you consult your doctor to determine any limitations with conducting practical demonstrations if applicable. There are regular tasks that require manual handling of materials, tools and equipment including exposure to outdoor elements. 

ASTRA requires any personnel attending an ASTRA course and training facility to wear enclosed, lace-up shoes with a non-slip sole. Further guidance and support on PPE will be provided at enrolment.
