With the range of funding, incentives and support services available to encourage you to hire, you’ll be hard pressed to disagree. (read on to find out the funding and incentives).

Yes, 2020 was a tough year for most.

But, focus on the positives (and there’s plenty) that have come from that tornado of 12-months.

Learn, Work and Earn

Every day we have the opportunity to learn something new.

This could include upskilling, gaining a qualification or jumping at the chance to give someone a new opportunity.

Apprenticeships and traineeships combine training with working in a real job – a real job for a real wage.

Apprentices work towards the completion of a nationally recognised qualification while learning valuable skills at work and being a valued member of your team. All under the guidance of a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) to manage the training process every step of the way.

We know that putting on an apprentice or trainee can feel like a headache

Cost of Training

There are contribution costs for accessing User Choice funding. Training is charged at $1.60 per nominal hour per unit.

If your apprentice is under the age of 25, the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training (DESBT) have an incentive where they will receive their training free of charge! This could save you thousands of dollars!!

Additional Wage Subsidy

Since you are looking at putting on an apprentice after the 5 October 2020, employers would be eligible for the Boosting Apprenticeship Commencement (a mouthful, isn’t it??) known as the BAC Wage Sub.

To assist with the recovery from the impact of COVID-19, the Australian Government is providing support to all employers who engage a new Australian Apprentice.

What is the BAC subsidy?

Is a wage subsidy paid quarterly, in arrears to eligible employers who engage an apprentice between 5 October 2020 and 30 September 2021.

How much is the BAC subsidy?

Eligible employers will receive a wage sub of up to 50% of the apprentice’s gross wage paid, up to a maximum of $7000 per quarter.

And to take the stress out of the training of your apprentice, the training team at ASTRA will support you by:

  • Sending regular training updates and training plan updates
  • Logbook updates
  • Invoicing fees (if there are training fees) monthly
  • Access to the training team and trainer for further questions

So, take advantage of these opportunities while they are available, because rest assured – it won’t always be around.
