Supervisor and Leadership Programs

The ASTRA Supervisor and Leadership Programs have been designed to effectively train students to be able to Communicate Information, Conduct Safety & Health Investigations, Apply Risk Management processes and lead others across a broad range of industries in preparation for appointments to supervisory and leadership roles.

Supervisor and Leadership training has been structured around the many common challenges faced by Frontline Supervisors and Leaders in working to coordinate the best efforts of a work team to achieve objectives in a safe, productive and efficient manner.

The training program provides an interactive learning environment covering the essential elements of effective supervision and leadership in the workplace.

Available as two different courses, the Safety Leadership for Supervisor course will provide participants with the skills to lead and motivate teams, communicate information and implement safety and health improvements. These are the units BHP core comptentcies for access to some sites.

The Advance Supervisor and Leadership Program will provide the same as the Safety Leadership for Supervisors course, plus conducting safety investigations. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be issued with an S123 plus two additional supervisory units.

Learning Methods

ASTRA use various assessment methods and techniques, including skill and knowledge assessments as an essential step to ensure you progress through your course. So, you may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying and training with ASTRA, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and in some cases through recognition of prior learning.

But before commencing any course, ASTRA recommends you consult your doctor to determine any limitations with conducting practical demonstrations if applicable. There may be multiple tasks that require manual handling of materials and equipment and general exposure to accessing and working on structures at height.
